HANDS FOR HOPE (H4H) FOOD EQUITY AND ACCESS

El Buen Samaritano invites you to participate in our Hands for Hope (H4H) Food Equity and Access Campaign. Our annual H4H campaign raises awareness about hunger in Central Texas and supports year round pantry services including our flagship H4H holiday events in November and December. Over the last year, in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, El Buen scaled our food equity and access (pantry) operations to serve four times our capacity—responding to 26,100 pantry visits serving 7,719 families (30,000 individuals). The pandemic facilitated new linkages for El Buen, giving us the opportunity to be connected to additional and diverse food systems, allowing collaboration with non-traditional partnerships, as well as diverse food sourcing groups—all which allowed us to scale up and serve thousands of families. This year, we will serve 20,000 families via our drive-thru pantry, home delivery services, and H4H end of year flagship holiday events.

Our November and December flagship events will enable food equity and access to 2,300 families by distributing:

    • 1,000 Holiday Meal Kits to families on November 20th (registration details below).
    • 800 $60 HEB gift cards to Partner Agency families by November 20th.
    • 500 Holiday Meal Kits to families registered in our services, parishioners in need from San Francisco de Asis Episcopal Church and referred clients from Lone Star Circle of Care Clinic.

REGISTER FOR THE EVENT NOVEMBER 20, 2021
The annual Hands for Hope event brings our community together to support families. On November 20, we will serve families in our community with a meal kit containing a frozen turkey and sides for Thanksgiving.

To minimize the spread of COVID-19 and make the event as safe as possible for families and our staff, distribution this year will take place via a drive-through system on our campus.


  • Requirements

    Must be registered to participate in Hands for Hope. Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis to the first 1,000 families. This year, to comply with COVID-19 social distancing requirements, families will register by phone during the dates and times mentioned below.

  • When to Register

    Friday, November 5 (7 am – 11 am and 6 pm – 8 pm)
    Friday, November 12 (7 am – 11 am and 6 pm – 8 pm)
    Registration will close when all slots have been filled.

  • HOLIDAY MEAL KIT PICKUP

    Meal kits will be distributed Saturday, November 20 at El Buen Samaritano (7000 Woodhue Drive). Registered Hands for Hope clients will be provided their scheduled time to pick up their meal kits via our drive-through operation. Please arrive during your scheduled time. Note: All adults in a vehicle must wear a mask.

VOLUNTEER FOR HANDS FOR HOPE: NOVEMBER 20, 2021

As part of our annual Hands for Hope event volunteers will distribute a holiday meal kit containing a frozen turkey and sides to 1,000 families on Saturday, November 20th. Anyone fully vaccinated is welcome to apply to volunteer! Sign up and help create a memorable holiday experience for a family in need.

Traffic Control Team

We are using a drive thru style strategy to safely distribute this year’s holiday meal kits. Volunteers in this team will navigate traffic to minimize delays and increase efficiency.

Preparation Teams
