El Buen Samaritano Stands in Support of Annunciation House
With the latest actions taken by Attorney General Paxton, the State of Texas is actively choosing to attack being a “Good Samaritan.” Now more than ever, El Buen Samaritano stands with Annunciation House and our shared mission to feed, clothe, house, and care for those in need – even against the powers of the world.
Paxton’s most recent legal attack on Annunciation House in El Paso, Texas is an alarm for all of us serving our brothers and sisters who are seeking a better life for their families. Without proof, he claims that the Catholic non-profit organization is illegally “smuggling” undocumented immigrants. This is because Annunciation House provides food, shelter, and advice on how to legally apply for asylum. Since 1978, Annunciation House has assisted thousands of hungry and unsheltered people. They are doing what we are all called to do – to serve our brothers and sisters in need.
Paxton’s attempt to shut down Annunciation House victimizes not only faith-based but all organizations who serve migrants, immigrants, and refugees. In the past Paxton has strongly asserted the religious rights of organizations and churches; however, with his actions against Annunciation House, he is deciding which religious freedoms the state will support.
El Buen Samaritano calls on all of us to unite in support of Annunciation House and stand against any attacks on the mission of faith-based organizations and others offering shelter, food, and medical care to our brothers and sisters.
