PRIVACY POLICY
This privacy policy articulates the principles, actions and beliefs of El Buen Samaritano (“EL BUEN”) with regard to the information collected, retained and used related to EL BUEN’s primary supporters, including donors, volunteers, prospects, and affiliated agencies and organizations. In addition, EL BUEN applies the same principles regarding confidential information for its clients, employees, contractors, and vendors.
Donors:
EL BUEN values its donors, volunteers and prospects (hereafter referred to as our "supporters") and takes their privacy seriously. EL BUEN respects the privacy of the personal and organizational information of our supporters. EL BUEN’s commitment to respect the privacy of supporters extends to how EL BUEN obtains, uses, protects, and shares information about them. This privacy policy is intended to be applied in conjunction with related EL BUEN’s policies including, but not limited to, the Donor Bill of Rights (available from EL BUEN’s Administration Office).
Clients:
EL BUEN respects the privacy of its clients who receive services from the various programs offered. Access to a client’s personal information will be restricted to those employees with a need to know and/or use that information to perform their job duties. Further, employees may not use client information to which they have access for any purpose other than to perform their job duties. Additional restrictions are placed on the use and disclosure of Protected Health Information (PHI) obtained by EL BUEN’s healthcare operations; these are detailed in EL BUEN’s HIPAA Privacy and Security plan.
Employees:
It is EL BUEN’s policy to protect its employees' privacy. No information will be released to third parties without the current or former employee's written authorization, except to verify employment, to facilitate the provision of employee benefits or to satisfy legitimate investigatory or legal needs, including without limitation requests from governmental entities. Any employee who receives such a request for an employment reference or employment verification should direct it to the Human Resources department head. Only the Human Resources department head or his/her designee is authorized to respond to a request for employment information regarding a former EL BUEN employee.
Information released to third parties for purposes of employment verification will include only the employee's name, job title and dates of employment. Income verification requires written permission from the employee to the Human Resources department head indicating the organization or party to whom the information may be released.
Employee personal data maintained by EL BUEN is considered confidential, and access to the data within EL BUEN is restricted to those with a need to know and/or use that information to perform their job duties.
Contractors and Vendors:
EL BUEN will protect the confidential information provided by contractors and vendors. No information will be released to third parties without the current or former contractor or vendor’s written authorization. Any employee who receives such requests should direct them to the Human Resources department head.
