Covid-19 Response

In 2020, El Buen answered the call to become one of the leading emergency response operations in Austin. Our small team of 17 staff members became a beacon of light for thousands of individuals disproportionately affected by the pandemic in need of access to food, cash assistance, and other basic needs. Our pivot, flexibility, and cross training of personnel enabled us to keep all employees during a difficult economic time and strengthened our relationships with the City of Austin and our community. Since then, we have doubled our number of full-time employees and expanded our service offerings, increasing our impact in the community.

Our staff motto is, “People who love what they do.” Our work is challenging, but meaningful—motivating staff day in and day out. Employees, volunteers and other stakeholders share a strong work ethic and compassion for those we serve. We promote a culture of teamwork, continuous improvement and respect for our community. We work hard, and support each other to provide quality care that is respectful of and responsive to individual client needs. El Buen values the talents of our employees and fosters an open, cooperative and dynamic environment in which employees and the organization alike can thrive. We currently employ more than 30 individuals who represent our vibrant community.

SOCIAL JUSTICE INITIATIVES

El Buen is committed to the transformation of communities where race and ethnicity do not determine one’s fate, health, or prosperity. The guiding principles embedded in our strategic plan, our services, and our partnership approach illustrate our stance on equity, inclusion, and diversity:

  • We will advance equity and policies that recognize the dignity of all.
  • We will lead system-level transformation through a social justice framework that dismantles inequities.
  • Our collaborative inclusive leadership will promote equity, community inclusion, and accountability to transform systems and policies that disproportionately impede Latinos’ access to education, health, and economic opportunities.

El Buen’s commitment is reflected in the leadership, management, and program staff who bring decades of experience addressing equity and inclusion. El Buen’s staff-led Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Taskforce works collaboratively to identify and uproot racial biases in our workplace culture, in the policies and practices of our operations, and the community at large.

El Buen Samaritano (“El Buen”) is an equal employment opportunity employer and does not discriminate against employees or job applicants on the basis of race, religion, color, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, national origin, mental or physical disability, military service, family status, genetic information, or any other status or condition protected by applicable federal, state or local laws, except where a bona fide occupational qualification applies.

BUT DON'T TAKE OUR WORD FOR IT, HERE'S WHAT SOME OF OUR EMPLOYEES HAVE TO SAY:

BUT DON'T TAKE OUR WORD FOR IT, HERE'S WHAT SOME OF OUR EMPLOYEES HAVE TO SAY:

“The main reason why I love working at El Buen is that I love helping people, and I get the opportunity to do it every day! This is the most rewarding job I have ever had.” – Juan Rosa, Community Health Worker (Promotor de Salud)

BUT DON'T TAKE OUR WORD FOR IT, HERE'S WHAT SOME OF OUR EMPLOYEES HAVE TO SAY:

“Something I truly enjoy about my job is that my input, opinion and suggestions matter. I tell and continue to tell my family and friends that El Buen recognizes talent and encourages growth from within. A lot of companies and organizations say it but El Buen lives it!” – Lillian Acosta, Executive Assistant
